Gardens, children's farm and easy pathways
Beacon Hill Park is a 75-hectare public park on the southern edge of downtown Victoria. The park is free to enter and includes paved walking paths through rose gardens, ponds, and old-growth trees, plus a children's farm. The south end of the park connects to the Dallas Road waterfront and the Mile Zero monument of the Trans-Canada Highway.

BC Parliament Buildings sit directly on Victoria's Inner Harbour. Walking the 12.5-acre grounds, admiring the architecture, and viewing the public statues and fountains is completely free. The buildings are especially impressive at night when thousands of lights outline the facade.

Spring and summer (April through September) are the best months for this itinerary. The gardens at Hatley Castle peak in May and June with roses and Japanese maples in full colour. Fort Rodd Hill and Esquimalt Lagoon are enjoyable year-round, but the beach is most comfortable from late spring through early fall.
How long does the full itinerary take?
Plan for roughly four to five hours if you visit all three stops at a relaxed pace. Hatley Castle gardens take about 1 to 1.5 hours, Fort Rodd Hill about an hour, and Esquimalt Lagoon 30 minutes or more depending on how long you stay at the beach. Add another hour or two if you start or finish with a free stop in downtown Victoria like Beacon Hill Park or the BC Parliament Buildings.
