West Coast Magic Park – Bamfield's Hidden Forest Sanctuary

It’s the kind of place you might stumble upon by accident, and remember long after. From the handmade signs to the views overlooking the Pacific and the Broken Group Islands, this little park adds something special to your time in Bamfield.

How to Find West Coast Magic Park

Located just 800 meters from the Bamfield Boardwalk, West Coast Magic Park is a serene escape tucked off the main path. A carved wooden sign marks the entrance, guiding you to a short forest trail where coastal magic begins almost immediately.

Sights Along the Trail

One of the first striking features you’ll see is a suspended nurse log. This fallen tree now supports tall, thriving trunks growing out of its surface, showcasing nature’s cycle of renewal in action. Custom wood-carved signs give the area a welcoming, handcrafted feel.

A few steps further brings you face-to-face with a massive, ancient cedar stump. Its twisted roots and sheer size suggest it once stood tall above the forest. A thick rope fence wraps around the base, encouraging visitors to admire without climbing. On the far side, you’ll notice a burnt-out core from a past fire, leaving the tree hollow yet powerful.

Peaceful Moments Above the Bench

Just beside the ancient tree is a wooden bench overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Broken Group Islands below. It’s a peaceful spot for reflection, journaling, or just listening to the wind in the trees. The forest opens here just enough to give you a breathtaking coastal view.

The Phone of the Wind

As you walk around the tree, you’ll find one of the park’s most unique and heartfelt features: the Phone of the Wind. A vintage rotary phone built into a wooden booth. Visitors are invited to “call” lost loved ones and speak freely, symbolically or aloud.

It’s a space for emotional release and quiet remembrance, inspired by the original Phone of the Wind in Japan, and one of only a few found on Vancouver Island, including another Wind Phone in Sooke.
