A Scenic Stop Along the Backroad to Bamfield
This isn’t an official stop by any means, but it’s the perfect halfway break between Lake Cowichan and Bamfield. Little Nitinat River offers a peaceful place to stretch your legs, enjoy lunch by the water, and cool off in the crystal-clear river.
We visited in May during our Vancouver Island 5-day Road Trip, and the flow was ideal for a quick refresher stop. In the summer, the water likely runs a bit lower, while in winter, expect it to be rushing and wild.
You’ll find a small parking area right off Flora Lake Road. From there, a short path leads down through the trees to a wide floodplain where the river winds through open rock beds. There are no services or amenities here, so pack a lunch, sit on the warm rocks, and enjoy the quiet beauty of this hidden riverside spot.
