Catalog Hospitality acquired Sooke Harbour House in July 2025 and held a community grand opening in May 2026, with refreshed guest rooms and a relaunched culinary program.
With just 28 rooms, Sooke Harbour House stays small. The property runs on boutique scale rather than chain-hotel volume, which means quiet hallways, an unhurried check-in, and rooms that face the water rather than a parking lot.
Many rooms include wood-burning fireplaces, ocean-view balconies and soaker tubs. Pet-friendly rooms are available. The new owners have completed significant guest room upgrades, with a full-service luxury spa planned for early 2027.
The location is the standout feature. The hotel sits steps from the Whiffin Spit trailhead, a flat 2.7 km out-and-back walk along the water that is one of the easiest morning routines in Sooke. Sunset views over the Juan de Fuca Strait are visible from many of the rooms and from the dining room.
The property operates two distinct dining experiences, both open to non-staying guests as well as overnight visitors.
The Restaurant is the formal dining room, open for dinner nightly and weekend brunch. Ocean-view tables face the strait, with a menu focused on local Vancouver Island ingredients. The property’s wine cellar is also bookable as a private space for group tastings, rehearsal dinners and small gatherings with charcuterie.
The Garden Cafe and Bar is the casual all-day side: counter coffee and pastries, weekday breakfast and lunch, weekend brunch, and daily happy hour from 3 to 5pm. The Cafe has its own bright dining room and a garden patio that catches the afternoon sun.
The dining rooms currently share one kitchen, so the menu carries across both spaces while the operation settles under the new ownership.
Sooke Harbour House works best for travellers who value quiet boutique scale over chain-hotel amenities. Couples on a romantic getaway, food-and-wine travellers planning a destination dinner, and Whiffin Spit walkers who want the trail right outside the door. It is also a strong choice for visitors making a longer stay on Vancouver Island who want a coastal anchor before continuing west toward Port Renfrew or the Pacific Rim.
Located at 1528 Whiffin Spit Road in Sooke, the hotel is about an hour’s drive from downtown Victoria. The route passes through Colwood and Metchosin and ends at the western edge of Sooke, away from the town core. Most guests pair the stay with a walk along the Whiffin Spit trail, a meal at one of the on-site dining rooms, and at least one nearby experience, such as Whale Watching, the views at East Sooke Park, the Sooke Potholes, or the drive out to the Sheringham Point lighthouse.
